Desculpem-me os compatriotas Portugueses, mas aqui a intenção é ser útil a quem eventualmente visitar o PPT e não dominar a lingua de Camões!

I´m joining here some tips shared by some members in PocketPT.net and other foruns (like XDA/Modaco), as well as some alterations at the registry that I have made.

There are softwares for instalation in i780, as well as some alterations of registry to change/optimize the performance of the equipment.

Important: Mainly the alterations of “registry”, can provoke instability in the system, by that, a Backup of security always must be made, and also, we know that some versions of Samsung i780 does not make use of Hard Reset in case that the device don´t get into Windows Mobile, so, by that, everything must be made having in account the risks that envolve.

What it is in here, was everything duly tested and did not present any problem!

Install “cab” RealVga, and the “Cab” “ResPack96dpi.ARM.CAB”, and will go to appear in Programs, to modify is only choose 128 or 96 DPIs, press “OK, and after that the equipment makes a soft reset(always hapend soft reset), and restart at what you have selected

When you choose 96DPIs , appears an error, but that does not make difference, just make “proceed”!

As you know, some softwares of GPS(case of the Tom Tom) do not recognize the COM Port of Samsung, so we have to use some software to ” fix” satellites and to be able to navigate.

There are two softwares that make possible any program of GPS “fix” Satellites, are they GPSGate and Portplitter, but as the GPSGate is paid, and cause many times a problem when being slow picking up a incomming call, I suggest you use Portsplitter that is freeware and don´t cause any problem:

Make download here and install it(in my case I am using “cab” for wm2003SE in WM6 but works ok).

After installed make the following configurations:

- Go to Settings/System/ External GPS and define the port of programs GPS to COM8, port of Hardware to COM9 with Baude rate 4800, in access keep the “checked” in managed automatically.

- Open portsplitter, in Input write COM8, Output select COM6 and press “Add” (the port appears on central bar),
check the option “autostart“(it keeps the definitions and it pulls out automatically when you perform a soft reset) and after that just click on “start splitter“.

- In the software of GPS(For example the Tom Tom) choose “other GPS NMEA“, COM:6 Port Splitter and speed 4800.

To prevent that Portsplitter automatically startup after a soft reset, if GPS aren´t in use(prevent battery drain), can go at windows/startup folder, eliminate the corresponding file, and start splitter when necessary from the folder programs.

It is possible modify the lateral keys of i780 to function as Scroll(up/down) with resource to a software, that is the PQzII and is Freeware.

Download the software here and install it.

- Open setup of the PQzII by full press at the “strange” icone that it will appear in the top bar.

- Go at “tab” “window” and select “enable volume key convert“

- Go at “tab” “code“, select “uses this function” and add two lines(Add), and put at IN function VOL-U and at OUT function UP, and press OK. Make again ADD for the second line, put at IN function VOL-D , at OUT function DOWN and press OK(as functions are placed in the boxes of the right as it shows the bellow images)

It will be with two lines:

To remove icone “flat” that it appears in the bar, go at “tab” icon and to remove function(when removed is not possivel to come back to enter in setup without reinstalling, so, test first and after being functional, remove icone)

To startup PQzII after a reset, go at Windows/start menu and copy PQzII.Ink to Windows/startup folder.

Note: Obviously it is lost function of volume keys, as the function “mute” of a call!

In my case, i use the keyboard key “space” to commute between “vibration” and “with sound”, but lost “mute” (by now)

At 96 DPIs, the width of the bars of scroll can be one “handicap”, as well as the 128 DPIs, exists who would like them “bigger”…

To modify the width of the bars of Scroll we need a registry editor, i use the Resco Registry, but can be used any other .

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\cxVcr for the vertical bar, and modify value DWORD for the intended one, being that the value for defect is 13

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\cyHscr it horizontal bar and modify value DWORD for the intended one, being that the value for defect is 20

After modifying, close the registry editor and perform a soft reset.

The Samsung makes use of 3 options in the time of the backlight of keyboard, always on, 5 seconds, or 10 seconds, and 10 isn´t enough for me…

We can modify through the registry the time that the light will remain on.

-Go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\controlpanel\backlight\KeyBacklightTimeout and modify value DWORD for what you desire( in seconds).

After modifying, close the registry editor and perform a soft reset.

In my case, I modified to 30 Seconds:

As we know, there are situations that D-Pad is more useful, and others that we prefer use the “mouse”, but the task to move between the two ways is too difficult…

We can install a small application to become this process easier and fast, for example in a Hardware key.

Unpack “zip”, copy “exe”to the device and run it!

To add the function to a Hardware key , copy “exe” to Windows/start menu/programs, and select that one in Settings/buttons

After that, a simple press at the selected key, will make to appear or disappear the “mouse”, moving automatically between the two ways, without need to go at Settings/system/finger mouse

I hope that can usefull for those that have a i780 and don´t know Portuguese!
